Who are entrepreneurs?
They are the risk takers, leaders and people who often work an 80 hour work week to avoid a 40 hour week. Not always the best achievers in high school, academically. “A” students are often managed by “B” students of which the company is owned by “C” students. Successful entrepreneurs often have a very strong work ethic as entrepreneurs often work a 60 hour week to avoid a 40 hour work week.
Entrepreneurship Education:
Teaching entrepreneurship is about teaching people to fish. Add a few more elements for success: personal finance, time management, goal setting too .. provides a rich soil to grow a legacy from. Think about the legacy small business owners start-ups will leave behind such as Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook or Mr. Pierre Omidyar, Founder of eBay. Yes, their businesses started small and their concepts changed the world. In my world . .. It is about helping people find passions and capitalizing on those. I loved classic cars. I really loved making money and supporting my family! My work in education began with young adults and stretched out to displaced workers, young adults who were ‘at-risk’, and then the prison population. The prison population, my message was clear: Starting a small business gives you a change to leave a legacy behind that you are proud of. Prisoners have a very tough time finding jobs. Entrepreneurship was often a part of their lives but finding a legal path which they can be financially secure with – often these prisoners NEVER knew that was possible. And they were NEVER encouraged to live a good life or often had poor role models. I speak to prisoners also about the path of life you choose often MUST change just as a business plan and times MUST change. Working with PEP or Prison Entrepreneurship Program in Cleveland, TX allowed me to work with entrepreneurs who knew their life path needed a change and starting a business gave them hope for a much brighter future than working a traditional JOB 9-5 for low wages and often low satisfaction. Whether you choose to start a business or stay employed, find time to share your talents with someone who needs a hand up. Entrepreneurial skills can be very power if working as an employee suits you best.
What’s next for me? Haiti – and possible mission work. Reaching out to encourage goal setting, time management and planning. Encouraging a third world country to look beyond survival in an area where survival is the ultimate success. Franchising my company was a dream – mission work was my plan once my franchises were successful. I had to be agile as a dream came true a little more quickly, and this entrepreneur knows any idea worth doing, is worth doing today! Franchising is in motion for my company, Cardinal Selling Services, LLC and will be available for purchase in early 2014.
